- Desde la isla de Puerto Rico, the birthplace of reggaeton, Carlito P. el Coqui adds his unique Latin flavor and island sound to the eclectic roster of La Familia Muzik.
Always drawn to music from a young age, Carlito recounts, In my family, music has always been very important. I cant remember a family gathering where there wasnt at least a guitar being played. The youngest of 6 children, Carlito grew up learning to play guitar, bass, drums, Latin percussion, keyboard, piano, and even trumpet without any formal training. Upon moving to Lakeland, FL at the age of 13, he began putting his learned skills to use playing keyboard and percussion in Klema, his local church band. While in high school, he formed a band called Rice-n-Beanz with a group of fellow classmates. The band was short-lived as was his following musical endeavor with a rap group called C.C.P. in 2002. Finally in 2003, Carlito linked with friend and local rap artist SYD to begin Caribbean Outreach. The group evolved, and male vocalist Ryan Horton joined Carlito and SYD to form Seeds of Worship. As a group, the three young men disbanded, but all still continue to work together as artists under La Familia Muzik, each pursuing his calling in music ministry.
Working now as an individual artist, Carlito states, I thank God for the talents he has given me, and I honestly hope people can vibe and enjoy the music I make. Theres a message in my lyrics that I want people to hear and understand. To break social boundaries, racial boundaries, even religious boundaries. To show this world that Gods Word is very much alive, that His Spirit still moves among us today, and that His promises of salvation and eternal life are real and true. Its something they must hear. Its something they must understand. Its something they must experience for themselves.
A musical enthusiast for nearly all of his life, Carlito P. incorporates a variety of styles into his unique sound. From the Latin progressions of Santana to the aggressive delivery of DMX. From the Spanish lyrics of Vico C. to the pop-rock of No Doubt. Not only bridging the gap between the eternal significance of the cross and todays generation, Carlito P. also extends Christs love and hope beyond language barriers as he delivers his musical message to the Latin culture.
