Who will you vote for

The majority of Caucasion churches are republican and the majority of African American churches are Democratic. Is there a Godly way to vote or is a vote just the lesser of two evils? I'm not a Republican or Democrat...I take each election as it comes. Want to here what you think.

I'm registered as independant, formerly republican in 1980s. I believe the Holy Ghost will direct me in the booth. I can't believe what is represented on TV , radio or the paper. Need God's direction on what's truth.

Good stuff Sean....

Tough one! Like you I am neither or... I guess I take it as they come... voting for the lesser of two evils, though I pray that God grants me wisdom as I learn about each of the candidates. I'm not sure if their is a "godly" way to voting... Good question! Any bible scholars out there that can help with this question?

Sean...again...loved that set at Flavor Fest...can't stop talking about it. LOL

Great discussion topic. I'm a democrat by affiliation but I vote with my head, heart and spirit, not my affiliation.

I am concerned for how our churches will vote because if we get a Bush acolyte, we get 4 more years of whatever is negative about Bush, however, we get 4 more years of faith-based federal funding (even though a Bush acolyte in the White House doesn't guarantee the faith-based initatives will be funded). On the flip side, if we get a democratic president, we get more in our poor communies like community development, tax breaks and all that...(ideally at least) and our inner-city hoods get more attention.

So, I'm concerned for the votes of our churches and them being stuck "bettween a rock and a hard place." At the same time, I'm praying that the Church universal just listen to the voice of God in this matter. I want to trust that they will hear the voice of God and move as He moves them.

Oh, btw Brother E, Bush vetoed a bill sought by the Democrats in Congress that created a 20 BILLION dollar INCREASE, laced with 2,200 earmarks which would have increased everyone's taxes. Sen Clinton proposed a 100 BILLION dollar increase. Traditionally the Republicans have been the ones giving tax breaks and the Democrats raising them. Like Public Enemy said, don't believe the hype! Do the research. Find honest and trustworthy sites or ralk radio broadcasts or writers who give you the real skinny regarless of the D or R.

The Democrats also wanted to rehash the bill that forced all media to be governed by government (socialism) and would make it illegal to talk negatively about homosexuality, abortion, etc... even from the pullpit. There are very few quality Presidential nominees. In my opinion Hukabee and Romney for the R's and Obama for the D's (he might be the most moderate of the group).

But if you think that the Democrat's party is still the representative of the poor and downtrodden and minority, think again. It may be occasionally true for some of the small local elections, but for any major elections it is certainly not the case.

As a side bar, "The Bible and the Blackboard" is a good, easy, short read. I think I got it through Coral Ridge ministries. Also www.Wallbuilder.com is a fantastic place to get books, information and history of this nation, especially its Christian heritage, without all of the Deconstructionist editing.

I am also an Independant and a member of the Constitution Party which has a representative in some states. I at least recommend people to check it out and review their stances and their beliefs. They don't sugar coat things and you at least know where they stand.

As far as the 2 parties or any other party, I think that when you are voting, other than just fullfilling your responsibility as a citizen and Christian, you should be voting for the person who best represents your worldview (regardless of party ties). There are some conservative Democrats and some liberal Republicans. Our responsibility as citizens is to know who stands for what, vote according to our biblical worldview, and then hold the elected official accountable to the standards and traditions of this country (regardless if they were our selection or not).

In most cases the Democrats are liberal or horribly liberal and vice versa. The race card is mostly meaningless now as most representatives are just in it for themselves or their highest contributors. This is why we need to find persons of character and morals and support them regardless of their party. We either flurish or fail as a country according to the actions of the church. We are the backbone, ethically, morally and traditionally. We need to stand up and be/get involved. We are not voting for pastors, but we are voting for men/women of character.

The party matters not, it is all about the individual. But with that said, sometimes the party holds a powerful influence on how the individual represents. Just do some research on voting practices. If there is a bill to stiffle our freedoms, promoting abortion or give special privlages to gays and non-christians while handcuffing Christians it typically is supported by the Democrats... and vice versa. The way we vote as a church tells each party what kind of representative we want. If we vote for someone without knowing what that person stands for, then what we have told that party is that we approve of their stances, even if in truth we do not. Do not vote just because of the color of skin, or the letter by their name (R/D), or because of sex. Be aware and vote in wisdom and prayer.

Great Question Brother.

It's always hard picking someone for President becuase the majority of people running do not always believe what we do. Naturally I pray about it, then I research each canidate to see what do they stand for when it comes to abortion, gay marriage etc. I also try to see if they have changed their stance on any issues within the last couple of years, because Politcians tend to change thier minds like the wind when opinion polls come out. This country needs strong leadership with great values as long as they line up especially becuase of this War. I am a registered Democrat but I will not always vote for a democrat.

Hey the way things are going don't be suprised if Oprah runs for president and wins. Just Kidding I hope.

God Bless Fam

Lol, Maybe Dr. Phil would be her running mate?

The only thing you're going to have a hard time doing is finding any mainline Democratic party candidate that holds to anything even faintly resembling our morals and values. Actually you might even have a hard time with Republicans this time too. It's odd that a Mormon (Romney) seems to have a better value system that most resembles our founding fathers and Christianity. There is a Southern Baptist (Hukabee), but his views on imigration are horribly flawed and is actually the same as most of the Democratic candidates... but that is one of the few strikes I have against him. That and he says he is against raising taxes but has done so in Mass. when he represented them.

But if you want a candidate that may or may not hold to our values (since his record is suspect) but might be the most liberal of the Republicans, then Guliani is the pick. I guess the issue is to vote for someone of quality in your party. I'm and Independant so that's not an issue for me, but I think the Democrats have no good picks this year and the Republicans might have one or two... maybe (being Huck and Mit).

I still recommend people to listen to talk radio (if you can go to www.townhall.com and see if they have a show in your area... good shows and knowledgable people). None have made a choice themselves, but they play clips of what the candidates are saying and discussing/debating the issues at hand. So if you are like me and don't always have the time or the knowledge of where else to go, that might be a good option.

Im split between Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul!! Yeah they have their flaws but who doesn't and besides I rather a Born Again in the House than a comprimising people pleaser on the issues that can sway him his votes type of dude!! One of them or none for me!!

I have to agree with Fudge,I also believe the Holy Spirit will help me choose who I vote for. It is hard to believe or make out what is being said in the media as far as who's the right candidate. Its like a movie critic, they basically give you their observation and take on a movie but ultimately you make your own call on weather you want to see it or not, or if it was terrible or an Academy Award winner.
